That sounds like a good point. Could you explain why they don’t like it?
Well when you’re cleaning laboratory glassware, you usually use mild detergent and water, followed by a couple quick rinses with distilled water. At that time in my lab session, a lot of students were just washing all their equipment with just distilled water (even though they know they’re not suppose to).
That quick rinse with distilled water washes away any impurities that may have been left behind in the glassware from the experiment. Using distilled water as your primary source of water for washing isn’t going to make the glassware any more “pure” than it already is. You might as well just use regular water to rinse away the soap, and then just flush the inside of the glass with distilled water.
The university makes their own distilled water using a distiller, therefore; there is a limited amount available for everyone. While it’s not hard to acquire more distilled water, it’s just a timely process so when you have hundreds of students just wasting it like that, it’s no wonder the lab coordinator will get angry.
Understood. Thank you.
That’s so true! It gives them cause to follow you around forever. Good advice.
